When Denton, an intern working at Glitter, the magazine that the entire fashion industry pivots around, gets a chance to work on her first assignment, she least expects the turmoil that would come with it. Switching identities with her editor, Anna Creel, Denton goes as Anna to crack her first fashion report. After unexpectedly doing Amber a favour, Denton is thrown into the showbiz and spotlight by Amber. When she drinks in the full flavour of her newfound identity and the luxuries, she falls for, and in turn wins over the attention of the heart-throb Chris. Denton's intoxication is all short-lived, when Anna finds out about Denton's new powerful connections. Anna assigns to bring some inside scoop from the lives of Amber and Chris. Denton, at a very perplexing dilemma, needs to choose between her career on one side and her loyalty to the two people who matter to her - her new best friend and beloved - on the other. What she chooses and how she deals with the consequences is what the book takes us through.

The book was a bright and brisk romance read, with a lot of emotionally pulling moments. I loved the characterisation of Amber, easily trusting and ever so endearing. There wasn't much depth to the rest of the characters, but that was compensated for by the whirlwind pace of the plot and the chirpy narration.

I definitely recommend this book to lovers of romance tales.

Enjoy an excerpt from Never to Part

As Sam left the bar and got into her Mini Cooper she looked at the snow gently falling down and wished, for the first time in her life, that she had been out of Nova Scotia. At least once. Then she sighed. I do love it here, and where else would I go? Gord could find his own way home. As the tears fell down her face she finally knew whatever they had had together was gone. Maybe she’d only seen what she had wanted to see.

Sam heard a thump and slammed on the brakes. She threw herself out of the car to see what she had hit. Oh, God, she thought, was it an animal?

“Why don’t you watch where you’re going?” came an American drawl. Her feet slid in some snow getting to the front of her car.

She looked up at a six-foot-four man wearing a ball cap that said Drakes and had the team logo on the side. He flexed his leg and glared at her.

“I’m so sorry! Are you hurt? Should we call nine-one-one? I can do that!” Sam grabbed her phone out of her pocket and waved it around.

“No! Lady, you weren’t even doing five miles an hour when you hit me. I’m okay. Call off the emergency first aid.”

She ran over to him and put her arm around him to give support.

“Lady, I’m fine. You don’t need to…”

“Just let me help,” she said and looked up into the warmest chocolate brown eyes she had ever seen. Her next thought died on her lips as she took in his deep forest scent. Her hand was grabbing nothing but hard muscle where she touched him. Her heart beat erratically as his lips curved into a smile.

This is a book that has two different short stories. Although different in themes, characters and incidents, the stories are unified by their reaffirmation of belief that love does conquer all obstacles. The first story, Never to Part, revolves around Sam and Ryan. Sam almost runs over Ryan one cold and snowy night, and finds an instant pull when she looks into his eyes. With completely different pursuits and life trajectories, the two unlikely people resist their feelings initially. But when destiny throws them together again, can they deny and walk away from what life has in store? Never to Love brings us to the table where two different corporate cut throats are working together on a business deal. Sarah and James come with goals and career ambitions, and resist with all their might against falling for one another. But how powerful can their resolve be, when Cupid decides to intervene?

I thoroughly enjoyed both the stories and I found them to be easy and breezy reads. The characters were all quick-witted and the dialogues came out pretty well. The narrative was crisp and brisk, and it was a great idea to make these different short stories - making the book thoroughly engaging.

I definitely recommend this to romance lovers.

First Meeting

Isabel felt a moment of panic as she watched the driver make a swift exit. She carefully walked up the stone path that led to the front door, being careful not to catch her black Manolo Blahnik heels in the stones.

The front door swung open and Isabel felt the oxygen leave her body. She wasn’t prepared for seeing Marc Santoro in the flesh again. She could feel his gaze rake over her in appraisal, apparently sizing her up. He looked every inch the wealthy business owner: he was dressed in an expertly tailored gray shirt with slightly darker gray trousers that were pressed to exactness. He was even more striking than she remembered, and she reminded herself to just breathe and focus on her pitch.

It was his intensity that she responded to; he seemed to be absorbing everything about her. Isabel hid her expression as she acknowledged to herself that while he may appreciate her outward appearance, he wouldn’t appreciate her damaged body.

Would he remember meeting her before?

She forced herself to reach out and offer her hand. As his warm fingers enveloped hers, she felt a spark of attraction travel through her body. She immediately pulled back, but not before she saw his eyes darken.

He merely smiled at her reaction, saying, “So you are not just a figment of Alberto’s imagination.” Guiding her inside, he added, “I was beginning to doubt that the old man had any relatives interested in the marble trade.”

Isabel felt her spine stiffen. Was he questioning her family’s loyalty?

“My grandfather speaks very highly of you,” Isabel said as she took in the luxurious setting, trying to get her bearings.

His voice was cool and didn’t give her any clue if he welcomed her visit. “It isn’t often that Alberto Neri asks for a favor.”

Book Review -- Ruthless Perfection by Susie Warren

Ruthless Perfection (Rosa Legacy #1)Ruthless Perfection by Susie Warren
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This breezy romance tales revolves around two characters who are adept at denying their own feelings and emotions to themselves. Isabel, innocent and oblivious to the dangers of the real world, approaches a Marble business magnate, Marc, to help her make a documentary on marble businesses. She wishes to dedicate the movie as an honour for her grand-dad, who has had a terrible downfall from prestige to shame. Marc, hesitant, wary and suspicious at first, reluctantly agrees to let her work on her film. While he fiercely guards his secrets and past, never wanting to give any of it away to anyone, Isabel stumbles upon what he doesn't want the world to know. What doesn't help the situation is that Isabel and Marc cannot help but get irresistibly drawn to each other. Do they manage to uncover, share and secure their pasts and spend their future together, is what the book takes us through.

This was a smooth and casual read and doesn't subject the reader to a lot of intensity. The characters linger in the mind for long enough until the story lasts. While the plot is a tad predictable after a point, many readers will agree with me when I say that at times there is a lot of comfort in that sort of predictability. Amidst a lot of chaos, such stories ease the mind up a bit. I found the narrative pretty good - the exchanges, repartees and the conversations flowed very well.

I definitely recommend this book to romance lovers.
