With days dividing her and her impending wedding to Chris, Aimee's life is every girl's dream. As she flies to Brazil to wed Chris, her flight is shaken up brutally and literally by destiny and throws her and the flight's pilot, Tristan, into the jungles. Thrown together in a place where survival is a question of constant battle, Aimee finds herself relying on, and getting drawn to, the enigmatic Tristan more and more. Tristan is battling his own inner demons and is seeking forgiveness and salvation. What he finds in Aimee is more than what he bargained for. With the guilt of Aimee's engagement looming over their heads, the two finally admit to their feelings for each other. But life takes a turn when they are rescued. In this game of emotional power, does Aimee choose her true feelings, or her betrothed, is what the book takes us through.

The classic twist of fate that makes a woman choose between the man she is engaged to, and the man she is in love with - that's what this enjoyable book has for its premise. Despite the fact that the plot gets a tad predictable, the narrative keeps the reader hooked to the pages. Tristan's characterisation came as a surprise - how much torment could someone have suppressed and hidden? With smooth dignity and an endearingly painful terrors locked up in his heart, Tristan steals the show.

Overall, I found this book a cool read and would highly recommend this to lovers of romance.

Aimee’s wedding is supposed to turn out perfect. Her dress, her fiancé, and the location—the idyllic holiday ranch in Brazil—are perfect.

But all Aimee’s plans come crashing down when the private jet that’s taking her from the U.S. to the ranch—where her fiancé awaits—defects mid-flight and the pilot is forced to perform an emergency landing in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

With no way to reach civilization, being rescued is Aimee and Tristan’s—the pilot—only hope. A slim one that slowly withers away, desperation taking its place. Because death wanders in the jungle under many forms: starvation, diseases. Beasts.
As Aimee and Tristan fight to find ways to survive, they grow closer. Together they discover that facing old, inner agonies carved by painful pasts takes just as much courage, if not even more, than facing the rainforest.

Despite her devotion to her fiancé, Aimee can’t hide her feelings for Tristan—the man for whom she’s slowly becoming everything. You can hide many things in the rainforest. But not lies. Or love.

Withering Hope is the story of a man who desperately needs forgiveness and the woman who brings him hope. It is a story in which hope births wings and blooms into a love that is as beautiful and intense as it is forbidden.

Marine Brody has a secret supernatural power that's formidable and scary at the same time. His psychic connection to the sea lets his control it. When a Joe Smith tempts him to accept an assignment, Brody takes it up, half for the intrigue in the challenge that helps him be near an element he loves - the sea, and half for his livelihood. When destiny makes his mission traverse the path of Rayna, he finds more than what he bargained for. Rayna, on the other hand, is on a reluctant journey to help her half-sister, and the last thing she wants is to fall for this mysterious sea-controller Brody. Irresistibly drawn towards each other, will they each bring danger to the other, or do they join forces to overcome troubles, is what the book takes us through.

The book has a very interesting premise. A protagonist with abilities to control a natural phenomenon and another, who is firmly rooted to the ground, make for perfectly crafted foil characters. I specifically loved Rayna's characterisation. Her internal turmoils and the inner voice that keeps warning against falling for Brody, and the memories of having been with Brody already, are all deeply troubling, which has been brought out well in the narrative. The story gets a tad dragging beyond a point, with the pace getting a bit sluggish.

Nevertheless, this was a very enjoyable read.
